Since 2013, the UNFCCC has organized NAP Expos to facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholders and exchange ideas on advancing NAPs. The Regional NAP Expo for Asia and the Pacific is being held in Korea as part of the Korea Global Adaptation Week (KGAW) 2023. The key theme of the Regional Expo aligns with the overarching theme of KGAW 2023: “A New Stage/Era for Adaptation: Scaling Up and Transformation in Adaptation.” This is consistent with the IPCC AR 6 report, which describes transformations in adaptation as measures necessitating substantial changes in systems, behaviors, and societal structures to counter climate-related risks, aiming for systemic change. Such transformations might encompass large-scale system alterations, including shifts in land use, food culture, urban zoning, and governance structures.
In this context, the GCF has been invited to conduct a 1.5-hour session to elucidate how it implements transformative adaptation strategies to help nations realize the adaptation visions outlined in their NAPs and other related planning processes.
