Since 2001, the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) has been providing more than 20 years of adaptation support to the least developed countries (LDCs) in addressing the adverse impacts of climate change. This session is part of the activities of the LEG to provide technical guidance, support, and advice to the LDCs on regional approaches to adaptation planning.
While NAPs have primarily focused on plans at the national and sub-national/sectoral levels, the consequences of climate change are not limited to specific administrative boundaries and go beyond national borders. This is particularly the case in water and ecosystems, as well as connected supply and value chains. Promoting regional coordination in the design and implementation of adaptation projects and policies is a key step in addressing transboundary climate impacts.
This session will showcase practical ways on the design and implementation of regional adaptation programmes with countries, financial mechanism entities, and other providers of support. They will identify entry points to inform the work of the LEG in providing technical assistance and facilitating the application of regional approaches to adaptation planning in the LDCs. They will explore examples of regional approaches that are successfully being implemented in the Asia-Pacific region, identifying areas (systems) where regional approaches would be beneficial and discuss the development of programmes that could address adaptation with a regional/transboundary lens.
