Addressing the climate emergency requires effective mitigation, adaptation and disaster risk-reducing actions. A comprehensive approach to risk management is needed that considers a number of factors to purposely strengthen synergies between disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, identifying mutually beneficial opportunities across policies and programmes.

This session at the NAP Expo 2023 will provide key recommendations on the benefits, needs, challenges and opportunities for expanding integrated planning and implementation. The session will address the following questions:

  • Why is an integrated approach to disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation important?
  • What are some good practices across countries in following such integrated approaches?
  • What advantages does integrated planning offer? What are the gaps, demands and needs among developing vulnerable countries to pursue integrated approaches?
