1.4.4 Application of Nature Based Solutions (NBS) for climate adaptation (Acción Empresas, Government of Chile)

Nature-based solutions (NBS) can contribute to equitable and sustainable development across Latin America and the Caribbean. NBS’s incorporation in NAPs provides a great opportunity to generate resilient infrastructure, since the close relationship between climate and biodiversity can be used to support the process of adaptation of the local population to its effects. Despite their proven potential and cost-effectiveness, NBS are still underutilized in development and infrastructure planning and investment. Planners often lack the necessary data to make NBS business cases. Governments, agencies, or others may not have financing instruments that recognize NBS value or may lack the knowledge, tools, and know-how they needed. To help chart a pathway forward, this event will examine the status of NBS efforts and results in the region, with the exchange of experiences in Latin America, whose result will serve as an example to design climate actions that favor successful adaptation in the region.
