Matthew Viens is a first-year Master of Environmental Management candidate at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. While at Yale, he is focusing his studies on the ways in which urban green space can be used as a component of comprehensive coastal adaptation strategies.
Matthew is also interested in environmental communications and the role community engagement has to play in regional, national, and international climate change adaptation initiatives. As a part of his current work, he is investigating how innovative communication techniques can be used to mobilize the global sports community on behalf of climate change action.
Prior to his time at Yale, Matthew spent two years working in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Research and Development. While there, he helped lead a number of public engagement and participatory research initiatives and aided in the production of internal and external communication materials.
