Pepetua E.Latasi is an Environment Officer – Climate Change Department of Environement of the Government of Tuvalu. She is responsible for overall coordination of climate change related matters at the national, regional and international level. She has 10 years experience in managing national climate change projects, working with communities on awareness raising. She is also providing policy advice to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Environment in matters related to climate change. She was part of the Core Team that was working on the preparation of Tuvalu’s NAPA as well as the Te Kaniva (Tuvalu Climate Change Policy). Tuvalu has successfully submitted its NAPA to the UNFCCC Secretariat in 2008 and its Climate Change Policy was endorsed by Parliement in 2012.

Pepetua E. Latasi is also an active member of an NGO in Tuvalu called Tuvalu Climate Action Network (TuCAN). She currently serves as the President of TuCAN. TuCAN has continuously participated in climate change negotiations mainly focusing on advocating Tuvalu’s vulnerability to climate change and its impacts.

At the regional level, she is part of the regional committee which is currently reviewing drafts of the Strategy for Climate and Disaster Resilient Development in the Pacific.

At the international level, she has been part of the Tuvalu delegation to UNFCCC negotations and a key negotiator for climate change adaptation issues. She was initially served in the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) in 2005
