Dr. Binaya Raj Shivakoti

At IGES, Binaya is engaged in designing capacity-building approaches for climate change adaptation mostly focusing on local-level resilience building. His current involvements are on promoting indigenous and local knowledge (ILK) for climate change adaptation, developing model case for locally-led adaptation, local level capacity building against compound and cascading disaster risks, and developing resilient net-zero roadmap in ASEAN countries. He has over fifteen years of professional experience in inter-disciplinary research and implementation on water resources, agriculture, disaster risk management, forest and ecosystem management, climate change in several countries in Asia. He holds a doctorate in environmental engineering from Kyoto University, Japan, a master’s in agriculture systems with integrated watershed management specialization from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, and a bachelor in agriculture science with economics specialization from the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He is also active in key networks such as Water Environment Partnership in Asia, Himalayan University Consortium (HUC), Asia-Pacific Adaptation Network Forum (APAN Forum), Asia-Pacific Adaptation Platform (AP-PLAT), Locally-led adaptation community of Practice.
