Dr. Matti Nummelin is a Senior Environmental Adviser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is also an Adjunct Professor in Environmental Science (Turku University) and an Adjunct Professor of Zoology (Helsinki University). He has experience in managing environmental projects in Tanzania, Guyana, Barbados, and Uganda.

He is a member of the delegation of the Government of Finland under the UNFCCC and was the lead negotiator for the EU on National Communications of Non-Annex I countries at COP12 (2006), COP 13 (2007), COP 14 (2008), COP 15 (2009) and COP 16 (2010). In addition, he was the EU negotiator on capacity-building at COP 17 (2011) and on capacity-building and LDC issues at COP 18 (2012). He is a member of the LEG and the CGE.

Dr. Matti Nummelin has published 24 scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals and 15 English scientific papers in Finnish internationally peer-reviewed journals, including papers in following international journals: Journal of Applied Ecology, Environmental Pollution, Forest Ecology and Management, Oikos, Biodiversity and Conservation, Tropical Zoology, Biotropica, African Journal of Ecology, Journal of East African Natural History, Insect Science, Journal of Barbados Museums, Bicovas, Annales Zoologici Fennici, Annales Entomoligici Fennici, Silva Fennica, Silva Carelica.
