Made from mailings, diary entries and haiku poetry, this is the story of a young couple whose broken intentions and abandoned loyalty mean that these drugs they are ready to renounce their own american citizenship by being present in other prisoner-of-war camps in the period of the second world war. They are trying in various ways to find out their innocence and to fight deportation in the process of military hysteria and racial profiling. Among the 120,000 japanese americans who were incarcerated in remote camps in america, many were kibei, or 2nd generation japanese americans. Kibei partially completed a course of study in the land of the rising sun and often had dual citizenship. This feature-length film tells about the experience of a young couple kibei, shizuko and itaru ina, who reacted to the loss of their civil liberties by renouncing american citizenship during their 4 years of internment and dedicated their hope to their beloved children for a better life in the land of the rising sun. It is based on personal documents discovered by dr. Satsuki ina, a film producer and the daughter of shizuko and itaru, when it is described in detail on the topic of everyday life and personal emotional upheavals during the period of imprisonment, separation and reunion. This is a story about broken dreams, lost customer support and a shaky balance between democracy and national security.
