Mr. Naresh Sharma, associated with Ministry of Forests and Environment (former Ministry of Population and Environment) is a Chair of Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG). Prior to this, Mr Sharma was the chair of the Board of the Adaptation Fund (a fund established under the UNFCCC to finance projects and programmes that help vulnerable communities in developing countries adapt to climate change) for the period 2016–2017. In the Ministry of Population and Environment, Mr. Sharma is leading the Climate Finance Management Section along with Nepal Climate Change Support Programme (NCCSP) which is implementing Local Adaptation Plans for Action (LAPA) in Nepal. He is also coordinating the National Adaptation Plan Formulation Process in Nepal in the capacity of ‘NAP Coordinator’. Mr. Sharma has served at various levels of government and in different parts of Nepal.
Mr. Sharma has sound knowledge, skills and expertise on agriculture economy, climate change adaptation, and the formulation and implementation of national policies, strategies and plans. He has been an active player in the national policy and practice shaping policy instruments in climate change adaptation in Nepal. His engagement with communities, academia and policy makers provides him unique opportunity to enhance learning and sharing through different levels to benefit communities in need of adaptation to climate change.
Mr. Sharma has been actively engaged and negotiating in the UNFCCC negotiation as a party delegates from Nepal since 2010.
