Ali Shareef works as a Director at the Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Maldives. He is responsible for policy formulation, the national and international reporting and implementation of programs and projects related to adaptation and mitigation.
He also played a key role in the formulation of the second national communications, the Maldives NDC and the recent GCF project Maldives secured in 2015. He is also working on the first biennial update report of Maldives, the third national communication and in the NAPs formulation process of Maldives.
Ali is also a member of the national delegation to the UNFCCC negotiations and has previously served in the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) and currently serving his term in the Adaptation Committee.
Serving in the government for 12 years and coming from a scientific background with a profession in meteorology and climatology, he has a wealth of information on the data availability and data needs for climate change adaptation and experience on various issues in programs and project implementation related to adaptation and mitigation.
