Katia Marzall is currently the leader of the Flagship Project on Resilience and Comprehensive Management of Environmental Risks in Agriculture at the InterAmerican Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA). She coordinates de implementation of a diverse set cooperation instruments, encouraging, promoting and supporting IICA’s 34 Member States, in North, Central and South America and the Caribbean, involving national authorities, private sector and civil society, in their efforts to address the multiple risks posed by climate change on the agriculture sector. Until recently, Katia was working at the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, involved with the implementation of the National Plan for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change for the Consolidation of an Economy of Low Carbon in Agriculture (ABC Plan), where she worked supporting the 27 subnational States to implement tailored actions to face the challenges of climate change. She was as well the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture in the discussions of the National Climate Change Policy, participating, among others, in the development of the Brazilian National Adaptation Plan, as well as representing the sector in the national delegations within multilateral bodies. She is agronomist, holding a PhD on Rural Studies (University of Guelph, Canada), with a thesis on environmental security of agroecosystems. Her Masters is in Rural Development (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil), with a thesis on agroecosystems sustainability indicators.
