Sheikh Mohammed Tauhidul Islam is a Senior Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Bangladesh Secretariat, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
His current work includes:
Assist in drafting laws, formulating policies and guidelines regarding environment conservation, environmental management, climate change adaptation and sustainable development at rudimentary level.
Working in assistance to the negotiator (s) in Conference of Parties (COP) meetings.
Preliminary evaluation of project proposals in the area of sustainable use of coastal resources/ ecosystems.
Reviewing and furnishing critical observations on the environmental impact assessment reports of different housing and industrial projects, with reference to Bangladesh Environmental Conservation Act and Rules so as to help decide about issue of environmental clearance certificate and ensuring sustainable use of coastal resources/ecosystems.
Coordinating with different organizations and institutions to enhance coastal governance to encourage integrated management programmes and investments that are ecologically and socio economically sound, and promote human well-being and security.
Compiling and analyzing data on economic, legal, political, cultural, demographic, sociological and physical factors affecting environment and helping decisions on adaptions to climate change.
Assisting in assessment of the impacts of human activities on the marine environment including oil pollution and its effects and recovery.
