Senator Loren Legarda is chiefly responsible for the passage of several landmark laws, among them the Climate Change Act and its amendatory law creating the People’s Survival Fund, Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Environmental Awareness Education Act, Renewable Energy Act, Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, Universal Health Care Act, Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act, Barangay Kabuhayan Act, Agri-Agra Reform Credit Act; and the Tropical Fabric Law,among many vital pieces of legislation.
Now on her third term in the Senate, she chairs the Senate Committees on Climate Change, Finance, and Foreign Relations.
Her inspiring advocacy on environmental protection has earned her global recognition. She is named as among the Global Leaders for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum; a Laureate and among the Global 500 Roll of Honor of the UN Environment Programme; and appointed as UNISDR Global Champion for Resilience. In recognizing her commitment to the fight against climate change and to the promotion of culture and heritage, the French Government bestowed upon Legarda the title of Knight in the French National Order of the Legion of Honor.
