Dr Neville Sweijd is the Director of the Alliance for Collaboration in Climate and Earth Systems Science (ACCESS) programme which is a National Research Foundation/Department of Science and Technology’s Global Change Grand Challenge sub-programme. He has a PhD in marine science and has published several research papers and co-authored a book. He is also serving as co-leader of the Japan/South Africa SATREPS project focussed on the development of an Early Warning System for Infectious Diseases entitled iDEWS and is conducting research on the relationship between climate variability and diarrhoea and pneumonia incidence.
