Bipin Pokharel Bipin Pokharel is a Climate Change Specialist with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations’ (FAO) Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (RNE). He is responsible for providing technical support to the FAO RNE’s member nations on preparing and processing the Green Climate Fund (GCF) proposals for Readiness Programme, preparatory and projects funding. Bipin is also spearheading an initiative to establish a multi-stakeholder regional platform for knowledge sharing on proven climate policies and adaptation practices for agricultural sector; unlocking the private sector investments to achieve ‘Zero Hunger’; and building the capacity of governments, business, non-governmental groups and communities to tackle climate challenges.
Bipin identifies himself as a trained climate scientist. Prior to joining FAO, he worked for a private firm in Washington, District of Columbia, where he designed and implemented climate change adaptation and mitigation projects for the United States federal and the state government agencies. In the past, he has worked with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nepal on Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA), climate risk management projects, REDD+, just to name a few. In addition, he was a climate change researcher with ArcticNet, a Network of Centres of Excellence of Canada, and has published in peer-reviewed scientific journal Arctic Science. His international career started in 2010 with a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) internship in Bangkok, Thailand. Bipin is a McGill University Department of Natural Resource Sciences alumnus.
